Australia and South Africa return to the TIO Stadium in Darwin for the second of their three-match T20 series. The hosts will be looking to seal the series with a game to spare after a convincing performance in the opener, while South Africa will aim to bounce back and keep the contest alive. We will have a look at the match from a betting angle below.
1st T20 AUS vs SA Summary
The 1st T20 between these sides began with South Africa winning the toss and electing to field first, a decision that paid early dividends as Australia slipped to 30 for 3 inside the first four overs after losing some crucial batsmen cheaply. Cameron Green counterattacked thereafter with an important 35 runs from 13 balls, but his dismissal left the hosts in early trouble at 70/4 nearing the end of the sixth over. They then lost another two quick wickets before Tim David took control, smashing 83 off 52 deliveries with 4 fours and 8 sixes, steering Australia past 150 runs on the scoreboard before falling late in the innings.
Kwena Maphaka was exceptional with the ball in hand for South Africa, returning his career-best T20I figures of 4 wickets for 20 runs across his 4 over spell, while Kagiso Rabada’s 2 for 29 ensured Australia were bowled out for 178 on the 20 over mark.
In the chase, South Africa’s reply began shakily, losing Markram, Pretorius and Brevis in quick succession to leave them 48 for 3 inside six overs. Ryan Rickelton, however, provided stability with a composed knock of 71 runs off 55 balls, with Tristan Stubbs adding an extra 37 to keep the target within reach. However, once Stubbs fell at 120/4 in the 15th over, the innings crumbled rapidly with five wickets falling for just 41 runs in the final five overs.
Ben Dwarhuis was the star Australian bowler, taking 3 wickets for just 26 runs in 4 overs, and he was well supported by the likes of Josh Hazlewood who claimed another 3 for 27 runs to rip through the South African lineup at the death. Australia’s strong finish secured a 17-run win, with Tim David named Player of the Match.

SUGGESTED BETS:
Top Australia Batter – Tim David at 4.80
Fresh off an 83-run innings, David is clearly in excellent form and he will enter this clash with confidence in his ability to score against the South African bowlers on this track. My only concern is whether he gets time at the crease but given his explosiveness Australia may well bump him up the order.

Top South Africa Bowler – Kagiso Rabada at 2.85
While Rabada didn’t finish as South Africa’s top wicket-taker in the previous match, he bowled well and I am going to side with his experience and consistency and back him to get amongst the wickets.
