The Alps are behind them, and the riders now face a 184.2 km hilly stage from Nantua to Pontarlier in Saturday’s Stage 20 of the 2025 Tour de France.
We preview the stage and look at the jersey classifications.
Stage 19 Review
Stage 19 was shorted to just 95km and that always meant the break would struggle to go clear. UAE controlled the stage but when Pogacar could not shake Vingegaard up the final climb and the latter refused to pull it was once again the breakaway and Arendsman who held on for his 2nd stage win.
Outright Betting Update
Yellow Jersey Update – click here to bet
Pogacar looks exhausted and is reportedly bored but he leads Vingegaard by 4:24 with all of the high mountains done and dusted.
Green Jersey Update – click here to bet
Jonathan Milan claimed 20 points at the intermediate sprint he leads Pogacar by 80 points and just needs to stay upright to stand on the podium in Paris.
Polka Dot Update – click here to bet
Pogacar leads Vingegaard by 13 points and with so few points left on the route the jersey is secure.
Stage Profile
This is by no means an easy stage and there is a Cat 3 and Cat 4 climb early and after that there is undulating terrain all day.
Stage 20 – What to Expect
This stage is too tough for the sprinters and is better suited to a classics type of rider. There will be a violent battle to get in the break and I would not be surprised to see a massive break go clear. That being said the early Cat 4 climb is 12km long so it may also be a smaller group of genuine climbers.
The break looks almost certain to stick as it is hard to see who will do the chasing.
