It has taken 11 stages but we finally have our 1st true mountain top finish as the 12th stage of the Tour de France starts in Auch and ends 180.6km later up Hautacam a brutal 13.5km ascent at an average of 7.8%.
We preview the stage and look at the latest Jersey betting.
Stage 11 Review
Stage 11 turned out to be one for the harder classics riders as predicted and it was raced at a serious pace.
Jonas Abrahamson won a tight finish from his breakaway partner Mauro Schmid with our selection Mathieu Van der Poel chasing the pair home to finish 3rd.
There was some racing amongst the Yellow Jersey candidates a long way out but things settled down only for Pogacar to crash near the finish. The bunch waited for him and the contenders finished together.
Outright Betting Update
Pogacar is still a firm favourite in the Yellow Jersey Betting but he has drifted to 1.28 after his fall. Vingegaard is now 2.25 – click here to bet
Milan has a comfortable lead in the Green Jersey Race and he is 1.16 to wear it on the podium in Paris. Pogacar is 7.00 and Van der Poel is 10.00 – click here to bet
Lenny Martinez is still in the Polka Dot Jersey and he has shortened to 3.50 with Pogacar now 2.25 having traded at 1.70 – click here to bet on the King of the Mountains
Stage Profile
Stage start is fairly flat in the 1st half and we get the intermediate sprint after 95km. After that the climbs begin with a Cat 1, a Cat 2 and the final brute Hautacam stretching 13.5km at a brutal 7.8%.
Stage 12 – What to Expect
This stage was always going to be the 1st big shake up but with Pogacar having crashed there is no doubt that Visma will test him. I expect them to put men in the break and UAE may also send satellite riders out to possibly help later.
Given the flat start this may not be the strongest break and I expect this to come down to a battle between the General Classification contenders.

Tadej Pogacar 1.90
Jonas Vingegaard 4.00
Remco Evenepoel 17.00
Mattias Skjelmose 17.00
Thymen Arensman 21.00
Lenny Martinez 29.00
Matteo Jorgenson 34.00
Simon Yates 34.00
Michael Storer 34.00
Bet: Pogacar win at 1.90
I don’t think the break stays away today as Visma will ride this stage hard to test Pogacar after the crash. There is the risk that he feels worse than he says but if not he can win with an early attack or wait for a sprint.
