MotoGP returns this weekend as the paddock heads to Assen for the Dutch MotoGP. We break down the key talking points heading into the race and suggest a few bets based on recent form and championship momentum.
Previous Race – Italian Grand Prix Recap
Last weekend’s Italian GP delivered another dominant performance from Marc Marquez, who made it back-to-back race wins and further extended his lead in the World Championship standings.
His brother Alex Marquez claimed second place, continuing his strong season, while Fabio Di Giannantonio delighted home fans with a third-place podium finish.
Championship Standings (After Italian GP)
- Marc Marquez – 270 points (Championship odds: 1.05)
- Alex Marquez – 230 points (Championship odds: 11.00)
- Francesco Bagnaia – 160 points (Championship odds: 51.00)
Marquez continues to lead with authority, and bookmakers reflect that dominance with his near-unbackable odds. Unless misfortune strikes, the title appears firmly within his grasp.
Track Insights – TT Circuit Assen
Known as “The Cathedral” of motorcycle racing, Assen is one of the most iconic tracks on the MotoGP calendar.
- Location: Assen, Netherlands
- Circuit Length: 4.5 km
- Corners: 18 (12 right, 6 left)
- Lap Record: 1:31.814 (set by Francesco Bagnaia in 2023)
Assen is a fast, flowing circuit with plenty of medium- and high-speed corners, making it a favourite among riders. The final sector is especially technical, often leading to late overtakes and dramatic finishes. Bike balance, rider rhythm, and precise corner entry are critical here.

VERDICT
Bagnaia will be disappointed with his performance at the Italian Grand Prix, where he missed out on a podium finish in front of his home crowd. He’ll be eager to bounce back this weekend and add another victory to his 2025 campaign.
Importantly, Assen is a track where Bagnaia has proven success—he claimed victory here last year. Given his track record and motivation to respond, he’s arguably the strongest challenger to Marc Marquez heading into the Dutch GP.
