The PGA Tour continues following a thrilling weekend at the U.S. Open, where JJ Spaun captured the first major title of his career. This week, the action moves to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship at the TPC River Highlands course. We look at the tournament from a betting perspective and offer up 4 players to take on the bookmakers.
The Course
TPC River Highlands will host the final Signature Event of the PGA Tour season. The course is considered one of the more forgiving venues on tour. It’s a par-70 layout measuring just under 6,900 yards (approximately 6,300 metres), which is shorter than the tour average. This parkland-style course features gentle undulations and rewards smart course management. The greens are smaller than average, so players aiming for victory will need a sharp approach game.
Market Leaders
Scottie Scheffler is the outright favourite to win this weekend and is trading at 3.80. The bookies have Rory McIlroy at 12.00 and Xander Schauffele at 15.00 while Morikawa is trading at 19.00.

Selections:
Scheffler is a worthy favourite but may be drained after the US Open and I am looking to take on some of the market leaders this week.
Justin Thomas at 29.00
Thomas heads into the Travelers Championship looking to rebound after a disappointing U.S. Open, where he missed the cut at what is arguably the toughest major venue on the calendar. TPC River Highlands presents a strong opportunity for a bounce-back, as he has a solid track record here—finishing fifth last year and ninth the year before.
Suggested bet: Each Way at 29.00 and my main bet for the week, a Top ten finish at 3.20.
Patrick Cantlay at 26.00
Cantlay arguably boasts the most impressive record at the Travelers Championship of any player on tour. He has finished inside the top 15 in each of his last seven appearances at the event. His best results have come in the past two editions—finishing fifth last year and fourth the year before. Cantlay will be aiming to continue that strong form this week and could well be in contention to claim the title.
Suggested bet: Each way at 26.00.
Ben Griffin at 56.00
Griffin has maintained his excellent form this season, finishing tenth at last week’s U.S. Open against one of the strongest fields of the year. He now has four consecutive top-10 finishes, including two victories in 2025. Given his current momentum, I’m backing him to contend for another win this weekend.
Suggested bet: Each way at 56.00.
Our 4th and final selection will be posted Thursday morning (South African time) – update, the 4th pick is below
Brian Harman at 91.00
Harman caught my eye last week as he hung around the 2nd and 3rd page of the leaderboard in the US Open before fading to finish just inside the top 60. Given he is not known for his length off the tee it wasn’t a bad showing and is perhaps an indication that he is returning to the sort of form that saw him win and top 3 earlier in the season. This track really suits his eye and he has had 4 top 10’s in a row including a runner-up finish in 2023.
Suggested Bet: Harman each way at 91.00 but a bigger stake on a top 10 finish at 6.50
