An exciting week lies ahead for DP World Tour players as they compete in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, a unique tournament, featuring a pro-am event alongside the traditional format.
The competition will unfold across three different courses and we look at this week’s golf from a betting angle.
Format
Each pro is paired with an amateur, and the two-person teams will rotate across the three links courses (listed below) during the first three days. After the third round, a cut is made, with the top 60 pros (including ties) and the top 20 teams advancing to the final round at St Andrews on Sunday.
Courses
Old Course at St Andrews
It is the most iconic course in all of golf but the “Old Course” plays the easiest of the three courses. With its very traditional layout, the true links has large undulating greens and wide fairways. Players will look to take advantage when they have a go at the Old Course in the rotation.
Carnoustie
Known to be a much trickier course, Carnoustie has tight fairways, penalising rough and a number of penalty hazards throughout the course. Traditionally Carnoustie plays as the most difficult of the three and so a good round here will be vital for a good score. Due to the uniqueness of this event a player who plays Carnoustie 1st may be well down the leaderboard but relatively in a good position and this makes in-running betting very interesting.
Kingsbarns
The youngest of the three courses plays in-between the other two in terms of difficulty. The greens are larger and so too are the fairways, however, if the weather picks up, the links course can prove difficult for even the best golfers around.

Rory McIlroy at 7.00
Rory is battling to get over the line in terms of victories but it cannot be forgotten that he has finished runner up back-to-back on the DP World Tour and 12th and 11th respectively in his last two tournaments on the PGA Tour a few weeks ago. He has constantly been putting his name at the top of the leaderboard and it is a matter of time before he wins again. Rory is a proven Links golf performer and was 4th here in his last start in 2022.

Horschel is coming off the back of an impressive win at the BMW PGA two weeks ago where he managed to sink an incredible eagle putt on the second playoff hole to beat McIlroy. Horschel now has 3 top 10 and 2 top 25 finishes in his last 5 starts. He finished 14th at last years Alfred Dunhill and 10th the year before and he will be looking to use his momentum coming into this week.

Thriston Lawrence at 34.00
Lawrence has continued his hot run of form, managing to get into the playoff at the BMW PGA. This means he now has 2 top 2 finishes as well as a win on the Sunshine Tour in his last 5 tournaments. Lawrence has shown he enjoys links golf, finishing 4th at this year’s Open and so he will be excited going into this week and hopefully he can give South Africa fans something to cheer about. He has a poor record in this event but is a different player in 2024.

Antoine Rozner at 91.00
My rank outsider this week bounced back to form with a 7th place finish in his last start. It is his course form that catches the eye though with a top 10 and a top 5 in his last two appearances.
