Round 7 of the 2024 Currie Cup kicks off on Friday night and we look at all 4 matches from a betting angle.
All eight teams will now play the teams from the other pool over the next four weeks before we head into the playoffs.
Friday will see the Lions host the Bulls while on Saturday the Lions face off against Western Province followed by the Cheetahs hosting the Sharks. The Griffons will take on the Griquas on Sunday.
FRIDAY
Pumas v Bulls – Click here to bet
The Pumas have won 3 of their 6 games and will need to finish strong if they want to hold onto their semi-finals spot. The Sharks are only 1 point behind them. They travelled to Johannesburg last weekend where they were beaten convincingly, losing the match 55-12.
The Bulls remain top of the log having won 5 games with 1 draw away to the Cheetahs. They hosted the Griffons last weekend and delivered yet another solid performance winning 55-21.
Head-to-Head
The two sides met twice in last year’s Currie Cup. Both teams won away from home with the Bulls winning the more recent fixture 17-24 while the Pumas won in Pretoria two weeks before that 15-63.
The Bulls are favourites to win and are trading at 1.16 while the Pumas are trading at 6.50.
I think the log leaders will be too strong and will pull clear in the 2nd half.
Handicap: Bulls [-11.5]
BET: Handicap, Bulls [-11.5] at 1.95

SATURDAY
Lions v Western Province – Click here to bet
The Lions have continued their strong season having won 5 out of their 6 matches so far. They hosted the Pumas last weekend where they delivered a brilliant performance winning the match 55-12.
Western Province had a disappointing performance last weekend when they hosted the Cheetahs in Cape Town. They ended up losing the match 19-26 despite a strong start. Province will need to make the most of the last few matches as they are currently sitting 6th on the overall table.
Head-to-Head
The two sides played each other twice in last year’s Currie Cup with the away team winning on both occasions. The fixture in Johannesburg ended 28-44 in favour of Province while the fixture in Cape Town ended 12-32 in favour of the Lions.
The Lions are favourites to win and are trading at 1.18 while Province are trading at 5.00.
I have not been impressed by WP and think the Lions will win going away.
Handicap: Lions [-11.5]
BET: Handicap, Lions [-11.5] at 1.85
Cheetahs v Sharks– Click here to bet
The Cheetahs delivered a solid performance last weekend on the road beating Province 19-26. They have now won 4 matches, drawn 1 and lost 1.
The Sharks have only won 2 matches so far this season. Their most recent fixture was against the Griquas at home where they won the match 40-21 comfortably beating the 7 point handicap.
Head-to-Head
The two sides last met at the end of 2023 in the Challenge Cup in Bloemfontein with the Cheetahs winning the match 32-29. The Sharks won both fixtures between the two sides in last year’s Currie Cup.
The Cheetahs are favourites to win and are trading at 1.50 while the Sharks are trading at 2.70.
The Sharks are on the up and my money is on the underdog.
Handicap: Cheetahs [-5.5]
BET: Sharks to win at 2.70.
SUNDAY
Griffons v Griquas – Click here to bet
The Griffons are still yet to win a match in the 2024 Currie Cup but have been producing better results recently. They played against the Bulls last weekend away from home and lost the match 55-21, well within the 40 point handicap.
The Griquas have only won 1 match so far this season and that came against the Sharks in round 3 at home. The played against the Sharks again last weekend away from home and lost the match 40-21.
Head-to-Head
The Griquas have won the last 9 matches against the Griffons.
The Griquas are favourites to win and are trading at 1.12 while the Griffons are trading at 6.50.
This could be a huge opportunity for the Griffons to get their first win of the season and I think they will beat this handicap.
Handicap: Griffons [+16.5]
BET: Handicap, Griffons [+16.5] at 1.85
