Friday’s Stage 13 of the Tour de France moves to Agen for the start of another flat stage with hills in the last hour of action. It finishes in Pau which is situated at the base of the Pyrenees and the stage is 165.3 kilometres long.
Stage 12 Wrap
Stage 12 as expected went to the sprinters with a small breakaway been allowed clear, but not given much time. The break was caught with over 40 kilometres remaining and the pace really started heating in the last 20 kilometres.
Unfortunately there was a massive crash in the peloton with 10 kilometres to go and Primoz Roglic lost a couple of minutes as his team let him over the line looking badly injured.
At the business end of the race it was Green Jersey, Biniam Girmay who delivered his third stage victory of the tour ahead of Wout Van Aert and Arnaud Démare (who was later relegated).
Jersey Update
The only movement on the leader board is Primoz Roglic unfortunately losing time and it remains to be seen whether he will start Stage 13. Jonas Vingegaard (17/20) remains a narrow favourite ahead of Tadej Pogacar (1/1).
Girmay has strengthened his hold on the Green Jersey and he now leads Philipsen by 127 points and is 1/10 in the betting.
Abrahamsen picked up a couple of points to draw level with Pogacar in the King of the Mountains, but Vingegaard remains the favourite here at 9/4. with Pogacar at 28/10.

STAGE 13 ROUTE
Stage 13 is another potential sprint stage over 165.3 kilometres. The first 120 kilometres are over rolling terrain, but are relatively straight forward, however, we then hit two Cat 4 climbs 1.5 kilometres at 6.9% and then another 1.8 kilometres at 6.4% and there are also a couple of non-classified rises on the way to the finish. This tough ending could encourage a strong breakaway to go clear at the start and another possibility is that we get the breakaway caught before the Cat 4 climbs and from there another rider or riders launches a late attack and goes on to win the stage.
STAGE 13 TACTICS
There should be plenty of riders looking to get into the breakaway and while the sprinters teams will look to control it, it won’t be easy and this is certainly not a guaranteed sprint finish.

PREDICTION
This looks like a tough stage to call and I would not write off the breakaway or a late attack. His team mate may be the favourite but I think this stage is perfect for Van der Poel.
I also like Girmay to beat Philipsen at 13/10. He is sprinting brilliantly and if Van der Poel gets the nod from the team Philipsen may drop off early.
