The July tests are now upon us as the Northern Hemisphere teams travel down south to test their abilities again the best of the best. New Zealand will host England followed by Australia against Wales and then France take on Argentina. We will take a look at these three matches from a betting angle.

Note the South Africa v Ireland match will have its own preview

New Zealand v England – Click here to bet

The last rugby match New Zealand played was the Rugby World Cup Final where they lost 11-12 to South Africa. The have announced a strong squad after a successful Super Rugby season that saw 3 New Zealand teams qualify for the semi-finals. Richie Mo’unga, who stared at flyhalf in the World Cup final, was not named in the squad and so it will be interesting to see what type of game plan new head coach Scott Robertson chooses to play without his Crusaders flyhalf.

England are coming off the back of a Six Nations campaign where they managed to beat Ireland, Italy and Wales while losing to Scotland and France. They have already named their 23-man squad for Saturday which includes an exciting prospect on the bench, Fin Smith who led Northampton to their Gallagher Premiership win.

The two sides last met in 2022 where the match ended in a 25-25 draw in London. The result before that saw England win 19-7 in the 2019 World Cup, however, New Zealand had won the previous 6 encounters. The two sides have played 7 series over the years with New Zealand winning all 7.

New Zealand are favourites to win the first match and are trading at 1.20 while England are trading at 5.50. The handicap at the time of writing is New Zealand [-11.5] at 1.95. New Zealand will not hold back in the first match, and I can see them opening the flood gates in front of their home crowd under their new head coach.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, New Zealand [-11.5] at 1.95.

Australia v Wales – Click here to bet

In recent years Australia have not been the powerhouse in rugby union that they once were. Their 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign saw them get knocked out in the group stages after winning only 2 of their 4 matches. Fans will hope that new head coach, Joe Schmidt can turn things around for them and start of with a win against Wales.

Wales had an extremely poor Six Nations this year, losing all 5 of their matches and finishing last on the table. They will be hoping to pull off a huge win down under and give themselves a chance to win a series.

The two sides last met in the World Cup where Wales delivered a 40-6 thrashing over Australia. However, Wales have only ever won one match in Australia in their History. The two sides have played four series over the years with Australia winning all four.

Australia are favourites to win the match and are trading at 1.16 while Wales are trading at 6.50. The handicap at the time of writing is Wales [+12.5] at 1.85. Wales showed in the World Cup that they have what it takes to properly beat Australia and if they can get off to a good start, I can see them delivering a tight match.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Wales [+12.5] at 1.85.

Argentina v France – Click here to bet

Argentina were a quiet team in the World Cup but still managed to make it to the semifinals where they lost to New Zealand. Although the Jaguars do not play in the Super Rugby, a number of top Argentinian players play in Europe now and will be ready for the high level of rugby that is to come from France.

France had a disappointing Six Nations compared to their recent standards. They won 3 matches, drew 1 and lost the other finishing 2nd on the table. They have named a weaker than usual squad to travel to Argentina but are the kind of team that can win without their star players.

France have won the last four encounters between the two sides and so the last time Argentina beat them was in 2016. The two sides have played a staggering 17 series with Argentina winning only 1, France winning 11 and 5 ending in a draw.

Argentina are favourites to win and are trading at 1.55 while France are trading at 2.80. The handicap at the time of writing is France [+4.5] at 1.85. France have shown in recent years that they are one of the top sides in the world and I can see them pulling off a win this weekend despite the fact many of their star players are missing.

Suggested Bet: France to win at 2.80.
