The Sunrisers Hyderabad took on the Mumbai Indians on Monday the 6th of May in Wankhede, and it started with the Indians winning the toss and electing to field first. The Sunrisers did decently in the powerplay, holding onto all of their wickets and scoring at a reasonable run rate, however after the first 6 overs came to an end, they began losing wickets fast and could not form any solid partnerships, resulting in them reaching a total of 173/8. Top batsman was Travis Head who scored 48 runs off 30 balls.
The Sunrisers had a brilliant start with the ball in hand, picking up 3 wickets by the beginning of the 5th over and restricting their opponents run rate as well. Things began to open up after the powerplay though, and the runs started to flow in more frequently as the Sunrisers began to struggle to take wickets. They eventually lost the match by 7 wickets with 16 balls remaining. Top bowler was Bhuvneshwar Kumar who took 1 wicket for 22 runs in his 4 over spell.
The Lucknow Super Giants took on the Kolkata Knight Riders in their most recent match that was played in Lucknowlast Sunday. It started with the Super Giants winning the toss and electing to field first, where they struggled to keep the batsmen from scoring and only took 1 wicket in the powerplay. They were then unable to take another wicket until the end of the 12th over when the wickets began to drop at a good rate, but by the end of the innings the Knight Riders reached a total of 235/6. Top bowler was Naveen-ul-Haq who took 3 wickets for 49 runs in his 4 overs.
The Super Giants didn’t look bad at the crease early on, only losing 1 wicket in the powerplay, however they were batting much slower than the Knight Riders did and as the innings went on they began to lose wickets quickly, resulting in them being bowled out for just 137 runs in the 17th over and falling 98 runs short of the target. Top batsman was Marcus Stoinis who scored 36 off 21 deliveries.
Head-To-Head
These sides have met 3 times in the IPL so far with the Super Giants currently holding an advantage over the Sunrisers after winning all 3 matches with the Sunrisers yet to win 1. The last time they met was last year where Hyderabad batted first setting a total of 121/8. The Super Giants were then able to chase down the total and win the match by 5 wickets.
