Amidst the uncertainty surrounding Chelsea at the moment, the Blues have become a bit of an enigma to decipher of late. One minute, they are beating the likes of Manchester United, the next, they are dropping crucial points against relegation candidates like Sheffield United.
This season cannot end any sooner for Mauricio Pochettino, in the hopes that his second season offers a lot more given the depth he has at his disposal. Currently 9th on the table, Chelsea will host Everton at Stamford Bridge fresh off a disappointing 2-2 draw away to the Blades at Bramall Lane, marking their 7th consecutive fixture featuring at least four goals per game in all competitions.
While entertaining, there must be concern about how inconsistent they have been at the back, having conceded 15 goals in the process. At home, the Blues have fared relatively well, having won seven, drawn four and lost four in the process. Once again, it’s their defensive inability that will raise a few eyebrows, having conceded 25 goals in 16 EPL games at Stamford Bridge this season.
The Blues have averaged 1.93 goals per game this season at home, with over 2.5 goals arriving in 53.3% of those encounters (8 out of 15)
Having been docked a further two points due to financial fair play, Everton now find themselves on the cusp of relegation. Currently 16th on the table, with just two points separating them from the bottom three, the Toffees know they have work to do if they are to avoid the drop and maintain top-level football for next season. Their rich history is in jeopardy, considering that relegation would mark their first exit from the top flight since 1954.
Despite the challenges, there are some positives, last week, Everton managed to secure maximum points with a 1-0 win over league strugglers Burnley, offering them a lifeline of some sort. They will now visit Chelsea this Monday, hoping to add to their relatively respectable away record, having registered five wins, four draws and seven losses to date.
The Toffees have averaged 1 goal per game this season on the road, with under 2.5 goals arriving in 56.25% of those encounters (9 out of 16)
Head to Head
Everton won the reverse fixture 1-0 earlier this season, with both teams settling for a point in an entertaining 2-2 draw in this fixture last season.
Betting
Chelsea 8/11
Draw 33/10
Everton 7/2
Verdict
It’s a difficult match to decipher, considering Everton’s overall poor form and Chelsea’s vulnerabilities. Recent news of further points being deducted may motivate Toffees to come out fighting.
Avoiding the outright market might be advisable given the inconsistencies of both teams. Instead, opting for both teams to score and backing over 2.5 could be a better option, hoping for another classic involving Chelsea this season.
Suggested Bet: Totals And Both Teams To Score, Over 2.5 And Yes at 9/10
