GUYANCOURT , FRANCE, JULY 03, 2015 : Matteo Manasserol ( ita ) During the third round of the French Open, European golf tour, July 03, 2015 at The golf National, Guyancourt, France.

The DP World Tour is back and this week we are off to Singapore and the Laguna National Golf and Country Club for the Singapore Classic.  We select four players to take on the bookmakers.

This is only the second running of the Porsche Singapore Classic and last year we had a shock winner in South African, Ockie Strydom who arrived at triple figure odds for those who had backed him.

THE COURSE

The Classic Course at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club plays to a par 72.  It has hosted DP World Tour events before, but not on the Classic Course so we really only have last year to go on as far as what the course is going to offer.

There are a number of bunkers and water hazards throughout the course, but if last year’s winning score of -19 is anything to go by it is not quite as tough as its nickname “The Beast” suggests.

MARKET LEADERS

Although Strydom was a shock winner in 2023 and missed a couple of cuts coming into the event, we have no choice this week, but to focus on current form with a glance at last year’s results as well.

Shane Lowry is the 17/2 favourite to win the Singapore Classic ahead of Matthieu Pavon at 12/1 and Rasmus Hojgaard at 14/1 alongside Paul Casey.  You can get 20/1 and better the balance and this certainly looks like it is going to be a challenging one for punters.  Defending Champion, Ockie Strydom is given virtually no chance by the layers and he is 150/1 and 30/1 for a place (Top 5 finish).

Shane Lowry 17/2

Matthieu Pavon 12/1

Rasmus Hojgaard 14/1

Paul Casey 14/1

Tom Mckibbin 20/1

Thriston Lawrence 22/1

25/1 and better the balance, prices correct at the time of posting but subject to change

SELECTIONS:

Thriston Lawrence each way at 22/1

I am going to oppose the top three in the betting boards as, Lowry aside, they all have indifferent recent form, something which is not the case of Lawrence who has had 3 consecutive Top 20’s including a 10th place finish in his penultimate start and a 2nd place finish last time out.  Lawrence is very much an up-and-comer and I am backing him to make it back-to-back wins for South Africa.

Matteo Manassero each way at 125/1

Manassero has been in the golfing wilderness for years, or at least he was until his excellent victory last time out.  In my experience players who come back from the “golfing dead” so to speak can often string a run of impressive performances together and I am more than happy to have Manassero on side at triple figures.

Daniel Brown each way at 80/1

Brown has been in impressive form and was T23 last week at the Jonson Workwear Open and he had a 4th place finish in the SDC Championship the week before that.

He was 38th here in 2023, but certainly looks a heavily improved player and as he approaches the end of his twenties, it looks as though his best years are ahead of him.

Ashun Wu each way at 100/1

This is the week I want the big prices running for me and Wu appeals at odds of 100/1.  He has been in pretty solid form of late with three Top 30’s in his last 4 starts including a 9th place finish in the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

Wu finished with three 68’s last week and looks well poised to have a run at the title in what is a pretty weak field.
