The Leopard Creek Country Club in Malalane hosts this week’s Alfred Dunhill Championship and we select four players to take on the bookmakers.
THE COURSE
Leopard Creek has been the host course for this event since 2004 and the Alfred Dunhill Championship is co-sanctioned between the DP World Tour and the Sunshine Tour.
The course plays to a par 72 and viewers can expect to see plenty of game as it is situated alongside the Kruger National Park and the Crocodile River.
Leopard Creek was renovated in 2018 and has proved to be a much stiffer test since then. Putting and greens in regulation look likely to be the key stats this week.
BETTING
Dean Burmester goes for his 3rd successive victory having won the Joburg Open and the SA Open over the past fortnight. He is currently priced at 8/1 to make it 3 in a row and behind him in the betting are a host of South Africans including Bezuidenhout, Oosthuizen, Grace, and Lawrence priced from 14/1 to 20/1.
There are plenty of other betting markets for punters to get involved in. Such as the Top South African where Burmester is 4/1 and you can get 14/1 on past winner, Charl Schwartzel rolling back the years and coming out on top of his fellow countrymen.
There is betting without Burmester and Lawrence and here Branden Grace and Louis Oosthuizen share favouritism at 11/1.

SELECTIONS:
Dean Burmester win only at 8/1
Burmester is in excellent form and although 3 on the trot is going to be a tough ask, the reality with The Sunshine Tour field is that there is not that much depth. Burmester was 7th here in 2022 and that broke a run of three successive missed cuts. Prior to those missed cuts he has finished Top 15 and Top 20. He is playing with a confidence level never seen before in his career and I would be very surprised if he wasn’t right there come the business side on Sunday.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout each way at 14/1
Bezuidenhout has been a bit disappointing the last two weeks finishing 17th in the SA Open and 9th in the Joburg Open. Not bad results, but I was expecting a lot more from him. He was 26th last year in defence of his Title which he won in 2020 (no Tournament in 2021) so that victory clearly shows a liking for the course. Bezuidenhout is too classy a player not to be in the winner’s enclosure again soon.
Oliver Bekker each way at 80/1
Bekker showed some decent form last week finishing 17th in the SA Open, but it is his course form that really catches the eye. He had a 4th place finish last year and a Top 10 in 2018 to his credit. He also looks like a solid player at 9/4 to finish in the Top 20.
Jayden Schaper each way at 28/1
Schaper is being given plenty of respect by the bookmakers here and rightly so after he finished 5th in the SA Open and 9th in the Joburg Open. There is good news for Schaper punters looking at course form though as while he was 26th here last year he was 2nd to Bezuidenhout in 2020. He is holding things together nicely and I wouldn’t be surprised if a victory is around the corner.
Last year’s winner, Ockie Strydom hasn’t been in the greatest of form, but if you fancy him to go back-to-back you can get 200/1 a win and 40/1 he finished in the Top 5.
