SOUTH AFRICA
The Proteas are currently in second place on the table with 12 points, having lost only two out of the twelve games they’ve played so far. They are assured a semifinal spot against Australia next week.
In their most recent game, South Africa faced the hosts, India. They lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. Unfortunately, South Africa couldn’t apply early pressure on India, allowing the home team to find their form and put runs on the board. South Africa managed to take only five wickets in total, with no player claiming more than one. This allowed India to score a total of 326 runs in the 50 overs.
South Africa’s batting performance was equally weak, as they lost three wickets in the first 10 overs of the innings. This early setback prevented them from gaining any momentum or scoring significant runs. South Africa was eventually bowled out in the 28th over, managing only 83 runs. This resulted in a massive 243 run loss.

AFGHANISTAN
Afghanistan have punched above their weight in this World Cup, currently sitting in 6th place with 8 points, having secured four wins and suffered four losses. At the time of writing, they have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs.
In their recent match against Australia, Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first. They got off to a strong start, with one of their openers, Ibrahim Zadran, scoring an impressive 129 runs at a strike rate of 90. They finished on 291/5 after 50 overs.
Afghanistan made a strong start to defending the target by taking 4 wickets in the initial 10 overs and they had Australia at 91/7 in the 19th over. They couldn’t capitalize on this advantage as Australia gained momentum and started scoring quickly with Glenn Maxwell getting a double ton in what is widely considered the best ODI innings of all time. Australia never lost another wicket and scored the winning runs in the 47th over. Rashid Khan with his 2-44 off 10 overs was the pick of the bowlers.

South Africa 3/10
Afghanistan 28/10
HEAD-TO-HEAD
South Africa has only faced Afghanistan once, and that was in the last World Cup in 2019, where they secured a comfortable 9-wicket win.
Suggested Bet: Quinton de Kock to score more than 34.5 runs at 17/20
Despite not having a strong performance against India, de Kock has been in excellent form during this World Cup, making him the current top run-scorer in the tournament. I am looking for him to get back into the groove here.
Suggested Bet: Afghanistan win at 28/10
This bet is purely on price. Both teams will be shook up after recent losses but if Afghanistan bat first they can put the Proteas under pressure.
