Vuelta a España Stage 4 Betting Preview

Stage 4 of the Vuelta a España starts in Andorra la Vella.Andorra on Tuesday and ends 184.6 kilometres later in Tarragona.  This could be a stage where the sprinters finally get their chance for glory and we take a look at it from a betting angle.

STAGE 3 WRAP

A fairly strong breakaway got clear in Stage 3, but it was always kept in a relatively tight leash and it was apparent that all of the major teams fancied the chance of sprinting for victory.

The team of defending Champion Remco Evenepoel, Soudal-Quickstep were particularly at the front and that hard work paid off as Evenepoel sprinted clear at the final climb to edge Jonas Vingegaard, the Tour de France Champion and the UAE’s, Juan Ayuso finished 3rd.  Primoz Roglic started the stage favourite and finished 4th, but it must be a bit of a concern that he never got into the mix at the end and he is perhaps suffering the after-effects of his crash on Sunday.

JERSEY UPDATE

Remco Evenepoel has now moved into the Red Jersey ahead of Movistar, Enric Mas who trails him by 5 seconds.  Other notables in the Top 10 include Vingegaard in 4th, 31 seconds back and Roglic who is now in 10th at 37 seconds in arrears.

Jonas Vingegaard remains the 11/10 favourite to win the Tour with Evenepoel now into 9/4 from 3/1 and Primoz Roglic out from 9/4 to 7/2.  Juan Ayuso is 13/2 and you can get 10/1 and better the balance.

Click here for the Outright Betting Markets including The King of the Mountains where Vingegaard is trading as the 5/1 favourite.

Stage 4 should see plenty of changes in the Green Jersey competition where Kaden Groves is currently trading at 8/10 and other long term markets of interest include the Team Classification where Jumbo-Visma are 5/4 favourites.

THE ROUTE

There is some rolling terrain over the first 121 kilometres, but very little in the way of climbs till the riders hit a Cat 3 climb with just over 60 kilometres to go and then climb another Cat 3 and there is a possibility that some of the teams of stronger sprinters will do their best to shed some of their rivals in these climbs.

STAGE 4 BETTING – Click here

Kaden Groves 11/10

Alberto Dainese 9/2

Juan S Molano 11/2

Marijn Van Den Berg 13/2

Bryan Coquard 10/1

Milan Menten 25/1

Ivan Garcia Cortina 25/1

28/1 and better the balance

PREDICTION

It is going to be interesting to see what sort of a breakaway goes clear and I expect there will be a battle to get into the break, but at the end of the day I can’t see the sprinters teams letting this one go by without a bunch finish.

The finish itself is technical with a number of bends in the final 1.5 kilometres and it also rises slightly to the line, but the final bend 250 metres from the line is going to be very important for the sprinters teams to position them well for the final dash.

Kaden Groves won the sprint from the bunch for 2nd place on Sunday and he looks comfortably the fastest rider in this field and he also has a strong team around him to hopefully ensure that he takes that final bend in 2nd or 3rd position.

World Sports Betting have introduced money back insurance for a 2nd place finish and I am going to take a confident strike on Groves to get the win.

Suggested Bet:  Kaden Groves win at 11/10
