The South African domestic football season is back and is in full swing and this weekend we have the four MTN 8 Cup matches to look forward to.
Let’s start with the MTN 8 Cup winner betting where Mamelodi Sundowns are trading as 14/10 favourites ahead of Orlando Pirates priced at 28/10, Kaizer Chiefs are 6/1, SuperSport United 7/1, you can get 8/1 Cape Town City and 25/1 and better the balance.

Mamelodi Sundowns v Swallows – Click here to bet
Mamelodi Sundowns went out in the semi-finals of last year’s MTN 8 Cup, beaten over two legs by the eventual winners, Orlando Pirates. Their last victory in the MTN 8 Cup came in 2021.
Sundowns have made a strong start to their Title defence beating Sekhukhune United 2-1 away and then beating Kaizer Chiefs by the same margin at home on Wednesday night.
Swallows last won this Cup back in 2012 and they get into the 2023 renewal courtesy of their 8th place finish in the PSL last season.
Swallows have made a poor start to the PSL season, drawing away at Golden Arrows before been beaten 1-0 at home by Cape Town City.
Last season these sides met twice in the League with Sundowns winning 2-0 at home and the match finished goalless at Swallows.
Sundowns should be too good for Swallows, but I am expecting them to do just enough to win.
Suggested Bet: Handicap, Sundowns -1 goal the draw at 23/10
Orlando Pirates v Sekhukhune United – Click here to bet
Pirates are the defending MTN 8 Cup Champions having beaten AmaZulu 1-0 in the final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium last season.
Pirates bounced back from an opening weekend loss away to Stellenbosch in the League with a 4-2 victory over Royal AM at home in midweek.
Sekhukhune were at home to Sundowns in their opener putting up a brave fight to go down 2-1 and they then came out with a 2-0 away win over newcomers to the PSL, Cape Town Spurs.
These sides last met in the Nedbank Cup Final back in May with Orlando Pirates winning 2-1 and in the League last season Sekhukhune won 2-0 at home and drew 1-1 away at Pirates.
Orlando Pirates are short price favourites here, but I think Sekhukhune can push them and given the style these two teams are playing I think we could have 3 goals or more in the 90 minutes.
Suggested Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 29/20

SUNDAY
Cape Town City v Kaizer Chiefs – Click here to bet
Cape Town City last won this Cup back in 2018 and last year they went out in the quarter-finals going down 2-1 to AmaZulu in extra time.
Cape Town City have made a strong start to their League campaign beating Polokwane and Swallows 1-0 at home and away from home respectively.
It has been a long time since Kaizer Chiefs lifted the MTN 8 Cup and you have to go all the way back to 2014. They still however hold the record for the most wins with 15, four ahead of Orlando Pirates.
Chiefs could only draw their opening game 0-0 at home to Chippa United and they were then beaten 2-1 on the road by Mamelodi Sundowns.
Cape Town City did the double over Chiefs last season winning 1-0 on the road and 2-0 at home.
At the time of writing Cape Town City are 19/10, the draw 2/1 and Chiefs are 29/20 and I am not convinced by what I have seen so far this season or last season for that matter that Chiefs should be favourites. For me Cape Town City are the value.
Suggested Bet: Cape Town City win at 19/10
SuperSport United v Stellenbosch – Click here to bet
SuperSport United have won the MTN 8 Cup three times and their last win was back in 2019. They qualified for this Tournament in 2022, but were beaten 2-0 away by Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-final.
SuperSport opened their League campaign with a 2-0 home win over Richards Bay, but they were then held to a goalless draw away at AmaZulu.
Stellenbosch were beaten in the quarter-finals by Kaizer Chiefs last season going down on penalties.
They opened their PSL campaign up with a 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates, but were then beaten 1-0 on the road by newcomers, Polokwane.
Matches between these sides tend to be low scoring and none of the last 8 meetings have reached the 3 goal mark. The last two matches hosted by SuperSport have finished goalless and I think the 90 minute draw is the value here.
Suggested Bet: The draw at 23/10
