After a well-deserved rest day the riders return to action on Tuesday for Stage 10 of the Tour de France a 167.2 kilometre route starting in Vulcania and ending in Issoire. This looks like a stage for the breakaway.
STAGE 9 WRAP
A big break got clear in stage 9 and it was soon apparent that neither Jumbo-Visma nor UAE the teams of Vingegaard and Pogacar were going to chase it down. In the end it was Michael Woods who took the victory, pacing himself brilliantly up the final climb and he was chased home by Latour and Mohoric. They may not have raced the whole stage hard, but there was also action in the Yellow Jersey race with Pogacar attacking Vingegaard over the final 4 kilometres eventually putting 8 seconds in to him.
JERSEY UPDATE
Vingegaard remains in Yellow, but now leads Pogacar by just 17 seconds then there is a big gap to Jai Hindley in 3rd 2:40 behind.
Pogacar has now replaced Vingegaard as favourite at 5/6 with Vingegaard now 11/10 and you can get 40/1 and better the balance.

Pogacar is also the favourite in the King of the Mountains at 11/4 while Jasper Philipsen remains a short price 1/8 to the win the Green Jersey.
The Teams Classification is always interesting as it can get impacted by breakaways and Ineos have drifted from 9/20 to 4/7 with Jumbo-Visma and new leaders in this classification, Bahrain Victorious priced at 4/1.

THE ROUTE
There are no high mountains on Tuesday’s stage, but there are 5 classified climbs which will make controlling this stage extremely difficult.
The stage starts on a Cat 3 climb of 4.8 kilometres rising at 4.7 % and that is going to give opportunities to the strong breakaway riders to get clear. The last 30 kilometres are predominantly downhill and come off another Cat 3 climb which is an ideal launch pad for a late attack either from the breakaway group or the peloton if it is still in contention for the win.
It is very unlikely that any team is going to work all day to chase this breakaway down as the finish doesn’t suit any one rider in particular. The only exception to this might be if someone within striking distance of the Yellow Jersey gets into the break.
VERDICT
Wout Van Aert is the favourite here and it is certainly a stage that suits him, but at the same time no-one will want to take him to the line as he will likely be the quickest finisher in any break.
Van Der Poel has been playing lead out to Philipsen and this will be his chance to get a stage victory, but I really feel this stage is wide open and I am going to throw a couple of darts at two of the bigger prices.
Alex Aranburu is good at this terrain and I have been quite impressed with his form to date, I would like to see him in the breakaway and I also have a sneaky feeling about Benoit Cosnefroy who has shown some inconsistent form to date, but I feel could be holding back ready to infiltrate a breakaway.
